CoQ-10
All cellular functions depend upon the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP is a high-energy phosphate which exists in all our cells. It is the primary energy source for many metabolic processes. CoQ-10 is absolutely essential to the ATP production process. When CoQ-10 levels are insufficient cellular energy production suffers. This of course has many health implications. However one very pertinent application is heart function. Is produced by the human body and is necessary for the basic functioning of cells.

CoQ-10 levels are reported to decrease with age and to be low in patients with some chronic diseases such as heart conditions, Muscular Dystrophies, Parkinson's disease, Cancer, Diabetes, HIV/AIDS. Some prescription drugs may also lower CoQ-10 levels. Levels of CoQ-10 in the body can be increased by taking CoQ-10 supplements. CoQ-10 has been used, recommended, or studied for numerous conditions.

Resveratrol
A key ingredient in red wine, whose biological activities in terms of health and longevity are unprecedented. It has been touted as a true "longevity molecule," one that has greatly extended both the average life spans and the maximum life spans of a variety of organisms.

In one recent article, focusing on longevity it was reported that essential factors are maintaining general good health, providing antioxidant protection, practicing caloric restriction; and, taking Resveratrol. The fact that a single chemical compound could make it into such a list is remarkable.

In addition, to get the same dose of Resveratrol used in studies, a person would have to consume 100 to 1,000 bottles of red wine a day. Some research shows that Resveratrol could be linked to a reduced risk of inflammation and blood clotting, both of which can lead to heart disease.

Vitamin D
Vitamin D is a breakthrough way to increase your energy. Prior to the last 2 years of studies, it was best known for its anti-cancer effects, following a flurry of recent research, it's becoming increasingly recognized for its ability to prevent diseases like diabetes and depression, heart disease, along with decreasing pain and slimming down.

With a growing older population, we need to identify better ways to reduce the risk of decreased energy and disability; one of the emerging studies has shown a significant relationship between low Vitamin D levels in older adults and poorer physical performance.

Older adults are particularly prone to low Vitamin D levels because they may get less exposure to sunlight and because their skin is less efficient in producing Vitamin D from sun exposure compared to younger adults. Older adults also may not get enough Vitamin D from dietary sources. There is a growing awareness that the prevalence of low Vitamin D levels is common among the elderly.

About one-fourth of people over age 60 have low Vitamin D levels. Previous research has shown that Vitamin D not only plays a role in bone health, but possibly also in protecting against Diabetes, Cancer, colds and Tuberculosis.

Vitamin D is naturally produced when skin is exposed to the sun's ultraviolet rays. Foods such as fortified milk, juice and cereals also contain Vitamin D, but it is difficult to get enough through diet alone.

Current researcher has also concluded that the combination of Calcium and Vitamin D, rather than Vitamin D alone, is most effective in reducing a variety of fractures. Interestingly, this combination of supplements benefits both women and men of all ages.

Populations who may be at a high risk for Vitamin D deficiencies include the elderly, obese individuals, exclusively breastfed infants, and those who have limited sun exposure. Also, individuals who have fat malabsorption syndromes (e.g. cystic Fibrosis) or Inflammatory Bowel Disease (e.g., Crohn's Disease) are at risk.

Vitamin B-12
B-12 is frequently used to aid in increased energy and promotes energy metabolism.
Vitamin B-12 is an essential water-soluble vitamin that is commonly found in a variety of foods such as fish, shellfish, meat, and dairy products. It helps maintain healthy nerve cells and red blood cells and is also needed to make DNA, the genetic material in all cells.
